Slide Action win ROSL Mixed Ensemble Prize 2020!

We’re absolutely delighted to have won first place in prestigious Royal Over-Seas League Mixed Ensemble Competition, and also went home with the ‘Philip Jones Memorial Prize for Outstanding Brass Ensemble’.

Over the 5th & 6th October 2020, the semi finals and finals of the Royal Over-Seas League Mixed Ensemble competition took place at the Royal Over-Seas League Club - St James, London having been postponed since March 2020 due to Covid-19.

After a successful semi-final, Slide Action took to the stage for the final (fully clad in boiler suits and caps) to perform music by Bruckner, Kodaly, Poulenc and Simon Wills, competing against 3 other fantastically talented chamber ensembles featuring instruments of all disciplines. At the end of the evening, judges Gavin Henderson CBE, Geoff Parkin, Sarah Field and Huw Wiggin awarded Slide Action not only the £10,000 first prize but also the ‘Philip Jones Memorial Prize for Outstanding Brass Ensemble’.

Josh Cirtina commented: ‘We can’t express how thrilled we are to have won the award. We’re extremely greatful to the ROSL for holding the competition, in a socially-distanced format, providing what was our first public live performance since March.’
